Surfing off of the awesome boogie high Live Action Sports achieved over the last week, I’ve decided to keep the good vibrations going by extending the clearance sale to the online store. Hop on over and find prices chopped, what’s left of the inventory after the Dollar Daze frenzy, that is. While you’re there kiss some of the designs good-bye, as once they are gone, they are gone for good from Walbrook!
Clearance Sale Continued!
September 7th, 2011Renewing my vows plus Clearance at Couchfreaks!
August 24th, 2011Although I took a few years off skydiving in order to procreate the other half of Shawn and me’s future 4-way team, I’ve never missed a Dollar Daze, aka Couchfreaks, boogie since my first skydive season. This spring I deemed 2011 the year of my return to the great and beloved sky, and to celebrate the renewal of the vows between 14,000 feet and I, Live Action Sports is slashing prices in half under the big tent at the Dollar Daze boogie at the Fort Dodge airport, August 31 through September 4. All women’s and men’s tshirts, tank tops, sweatshirts, and kids shirts (NB – 4t) will be 50 – 75% off!
I, Janet White, take you, The Sky, to be my wedded beloved. To jump and to fly in, from this day forward, in good skydives and in reserve rides, for low jump prices and expensive jump prices, in sinus infection and in adrenaline rush, to love and to cherish till death do us part. And hereto I pledge to you my faithfulness.
Consider this your formal invitation to stop by the LAS tent, congratulate me and altitude on our re-commitment to our relationship, hang out on the couch, and enjoy the idea of adding to your skydive wardrobe without sacrificing an entire jump ticket. Maybe we can make a jump together…a 3-way with me, you, and my beloved Sky. Maybe you’ll bring the cake?
Get to know Streamline Kids. NOW! DO IT NOW!
February 9th, 2011While it’s Live Action Sports’ quest to conquer Iowa’s lesser known action and adventure sports, we don’t ignore the fact that other extra curricular activities like organized sports, music lessons, dance classes, martial arts training, Boys and Girls Scouts, and so on, are incredibly fun and important in the development of a child’s confidence, gifts, self esteem, physical health and beyond. While we do our best to bring rad adventures to your attention so you can get out and rock Iowa, there is another company doing their best to bring these organized activities to the families that can’t afford it. Who is this merry band of do-gooders? Streamline Kids, of course.
It’s a niche that has been long overdue to be filled in the Cedar Rapids and Marion area, and the non-profit Streamline Kids has come bounding out of the gate, drawing interest and attention not only locally, but well out of the Iowa area as well. I wonder if you can think back to when you were in school, and remember any schoolmates that wanted to join an activity but had no financial assistance to do so? Maybe you were that kid? Maybe your kid is that kid?
Whoever you are it’s unmistakably how activities are beneficial to the growth of a child. How would you like to benefit Streamline Kids? Or benefit from Streamline Kids? LAS urges you to visit their website at www.streamlinekids.org and check out all the goodness they rain down on Iowa. In the immediate, and I mean immediate future, the Cedar Rapids Country Club is the location for Streamline Kids 2011 Gala tomorrow night, that’s Thursday, February 10th, at 6pm. This fundraiser offers an incredible menu, a tasty wine bar, magnificent music, and some mingling with the fine and fancy people at Streamline Kids. Not to mention, it’s another opportunity to spend some hang time with your favorite Live Action Heroes, Shawn and Janet. Today is the last opportunity to get your tickets, so give a shout below, send a message to janet@liveactionsports.net, holler on the LAS Facebook page, or hit up the Streamline Kids website. Send a smoke signal if you have to, but get yourself some tickets! It’s the social event of the season and probably the only time you’ll see Janet in a dress for the rest of the year!
Who needs some fancy Janet in their February 10th evening?
UPDATE! Campustown Railjam Venue Change
February 7th, 2011Much to the chagrin of us here at Live Action Sports, Ames and Iowa State University came to the last minute decision that the Railjam is (suddenly? after 6 years?) too risky to put on. But have no fear, the amazing team at Iowa State’s Ski and Snowboard Club won’t let it die. They’ve teamed up with Seven Oaks in Boone and the Railjam lives on! Note that the date has changed to Friday, February 18th and preliminaries are at 6pm.
I’d like to encourage everyone reading this to make plans to show up and support the event. Live Action Sports is a PROUD sponsor and we are looking forward to having our faces rocked off by the talented contestants.
Campustown Rail Jam and the Underpants That Make It Happen
January 12th, 2011At 10:00am on Saturday, February 12, with the assistance of the city of Ames, the snow will arrive on Chamberlain Street at which point the Club’s event committee will begin creating a course for the competition. Preliminaries will determine the final competitors, and then the main event swings into full rad-ocity. Once the competition is over there will be an awards ceremony, and all the while a DJ will be rocking the faces off of us all, competitors and spectators alike.
While the Club and the city make it seem like snow fairies come down and produce awesomeness for all to enjoy, it really takes months of preparation and hard work on the part of the Club. The competition is always at risk of being cancelled due to warm weather and lack of snow, but fortunately this has only happened one time in the last 6 years of its history.
40 to 50 competitors, many from Iowa State and many from other schools around the Midwest, are expected to attend this year. Contact the ISU Ski and Snowboard Club if you are interested, as registration begins soon! Live Action Sports is proud to be a sponsor and will be there to cheer on the Club, competitors, and bulk up the spectator numbers. Come on by to show some love and support the efforts that goes into bringing this event to life.
Take it from Cody Pancratz of the ISU Ski and Snowboard Club, “ It’s a great event for the whole Campustown area to come and enjoy, not just people who like to ski and snowboard! There will be lots of live music and fun competitions to watch!”

Law of the Funeral Table and Also There’s a Chopper
November 29th, 2010Many years ago I started planning my funeral table. You know what I mean? The table at a funeral that usually has items like photos of the deceased and the deceased’s family, military accolades, etc. Basically items that the living think sum up the deceased’s life. I decided to live my life by the rule of the funeral table. Read the rest of this entry »
Why Am I Obsessed With Spirals?
October 27th, 2010Maybe you’ve noticed, maybe you haven’t, that I refer to the spiral, to spiraling out, or to riding the spiral often around the website. Maybe you’ve noticed the spiral is part of Live Action Sports’ logo. Maybe you’ve cared, maybe you haven’t, why I do it or what it means. If you would like to understand the plight of Live Action Sports and a glimpse into the gnarly mindworks of Janet, give this a whirl. Read the rest of this entry »
Socks For All!
September 23rd, 2010No one is accusing Home Team spendy guy, Shawn, of being cheap. In fact, there are two ways to sell almost ANYTHING to Shawn. One is to convince him he can’t afford to NOT buy it. And two is to wave as many bells and whistles as possible in front of him and his consumer-driven gene will kick into overdrive. Read the rest of this entry »
Gnataway
August 16th, 2010
So how did you enjoy the overpopulated gnat community that seemed to live in incredibly close proximity to your head every time you set foot outside this summer? Not much? Me either. I don’t claim to know anything about gnats except that they are small flies and I hate them. But I have the coolest neighbors that turned me on to the coolest remedy. Brown Sugar and Vanilla body spray. Totally. Cheap body spray found at the Crap-Mart I don’t want to name because I’m ashamed I set foot in there except this was the only reason I did and also sometimes they have cool Ocean Pacific clothes and swim suits there (which makes me mad at OP). So anyway, the small 2oz pump was $2 and obviously the 4oz pump was $4. I bought 2 small pumps. One to stash at home and one to stash in our hiking gear. What’s the best part of this spray besides the gnats are noticeably biting someone else and not you? You don’t smell chemically enhanced. You smell vanilla-y. (Dudes, you can smell like vanilla and still be manly.) What sucks about it? You have to keep it close at hand if you’re out for a long period of time. My experience is that it wears off after about a half hour. So look out you stupid gnats. Your secret is out and you are DOOMED! What do you use to keep away the army of gnats? Let’s hear it!
Heed this warning! At some point in the summer (summer of 2010 it was almost exactly July 1) the gnats stop being bothersome and the mosquitos are the new enemy. This is the exact moment you should stop using the vanilla brown sugar body spray until next year. For gnats, it’s a repellant. For mosquitos, it’s a giant blinking neon sign that says FREE FOOD!
Trail Mix of the Angels
July 14th, 2010Those of you who know anything about Live Action Sports headquarters knows that its stocked with (too much) crap from Sam’s Club, thanks to Shawn. Amidst the toilet paper and tuna, Shawn tends to stumble on some incredible finds. This week Shawn’s instincts brought home Mareblu Naturals’ Blueberry Pomegranate Trail Mix Crunch.
